Urban debate represents a solution for helping students break the cycle of poverty. Its incredible story continues to unfold in cities across the nation. English Language Learners are winning state debating championships. Students are earningmillions in debate scholarship offers providing them with unimagined options. From Seattle to Miami, nearly 50,000 children nationwide discovered the power of their voice through debate.
The Associated Leaders of Urban Debate (ALOUD) represents the means to make this solution accessible to a half million students. We are well positioned to execute a national pilot to extend debate programs to the neediest students in the neediest schools.
It takes time and effort to leverage partnerships, collaborate with national agencies, and attract stakeholders from universities, school systems and corporate America. With a distinguished Board well versed in fund development and civic discourse and a management team with half a century of experience in nonprofit management and debate, ALOUD will produce tangible, measurable results in communities nationwide. Our partners include the top twenty-five urban debate communities in the country representing urban debate leagues, college outreach programs and community initiatives. Our supporters include nearly 100 organizations involved in civic discourse and educational reform.
By supporting innovative debate programs, we can make a real difference for America’s urban students. We must support a national effort to capitalize on the debate movement’s successes, address the challenges and foster collaboration. Helping young people discover their voice and renew hope in the future leads the way to holistic solutions that help communities meet today's challenges.
