The New York Urban Debate League (NYUDL) aims to institutionalize policy debate in NYC schools for grades 5-12. Through empirical observations, anecdotal accounts, qualitative studies and quantitative evaluations, we’ve learned that debate enables urban students to improve academic performance, think critically, resolve conflicts peaceably, envision productive futures, and build healthy self-concepts. The Alexandra Glankoff division provides these rich opportunities to middle schoolers. The New York Urban Debate League is
wholly owned, funded and operated by the IMPACT Coalition. Those
interested in supporting the participation of NYC students in urban debate
should direct donations to the IMPACTCoalition using the link above. Since inception, IMPACT has started debate programs at 119 schools in
NYC and expanded debate services at 48 other institutions. Over
5000 students and 300 teachers have been introduced to the power of debate
through your generous support of our worK. IMPACT is a
partner organization of the ASSOCIATED LEADERS OF URBAN DEBATE (ALOUD)--www.debate.leaders.
Maribel grew up in the South Bronx. She wasn't thinking about college. When she went to high school, she joined the debate team. Through debate, Maribel found herself and secured a full-ride POSSE scholarship to Franklin &Marshall. This year, she earned a Fulbright Scholarship and will serve as a cultural Ambassador to Venezuela.
