BACKGROUND ON THE AWARDS
ALOUD harnessed decades of debate, nonprofit, corporate and evaluation experience to design the National Awards for Debate Excellence. The awards serve dual purpose. They: provide recognition for those in the public eye who take on difficult issues with integrity and push to make the world a better place and they offer incentives for school systems to experiment with debate in their areas.
RECOGNIZING DEBATE LEADERS IN EVERYDAY LIFE
Debate is everywhere. By identifying, today's Great debaters in our schools, businesses and religious institutions, the National Awards for Debate Excellence highlights the uses of debate and the importance of the role it plays in our nation's development. ALOUD seeks nominations across the country. If you know a great debater who deserves to be honored, we invite you to nominate them for a National Award for Debate Excellence.
Colleges, religious institutions, community-based organizations, school districts, corporations, and government agencies want to deliver their message in innovative ways and upgrade the communication and analytical skills of their employees and students. ALOUD positions debate as an instrument of understanding that builds civic discourse in diverse sectors, captures the imagination of individuals and groups who are excited by what it can do for a young person and honors the Great debaters in everyday life..
RECOGNIZING INNOVATION IN SCHOOLS
The National Awards for Debate Excellence are synonymous with the best in communication and advocacy and are destined to become the hallmark award for multi-city school district partnerships. The best way to expand the reach of debate would be “to bring the mountain to Mohammed”. ALOUD cesigned an award to attract public/private partnerships in the nation’s school districts. These districts will identify local funders and apply for the award based on successful integration of debate into their school systems. Winners will receive technical assistance, consulting and teacher training valued at over $100,000 to improve and expand their model of debate excellence.
Debate as a classroom tool, intramural competitions, fantastic uses of technology and blossoming new competitve leagues all represent fertile ground for examination, study and recognition. ALOUD’s approach coupled with innovative, local public/private partnerships are key to debate reaching a tipping point and impacting their culture.
The National Awards for Debate Excellence look for rigorous scientific assessment that demonstrates reall outcomes. Public/private partnerships that involve parents, school systems, local businesses and funding partners are looked upon most favorably.
By supporting innovative debate programs, we can make a real difference for America’s urban students. Helping young people discover their voice and renew hope in the future leads the way to holistic solutions that help communities meet today's challenges. The National Awards for Debate Excellence addresses the needs through integrated services and proven solutions. These awards will play an increasing role in transforming public education as districts compete nationwide to innovate using debate in their local areas as a centerpiece.
