THE GIFT OF TIME
Our most precious resource is time. It is non-renewable and everyone always wants more of it. ALOUD partners seek volunteers nationwide to help achieve better outcomes for America's youth. The value of your time is not only your presence but also the symbol it provides to young students that someone cares about them, their education, and their future.
INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES
--Bringing people together for community debates, town hall meetings and other forms of civic engagement is always labor-intensive. ALOUD partners are looking for individuals to assist in event planning, viral marketing and media relations for all of our programs and activities.
--Almost every ALOUD partner looks to the ultimate success of young people as their entry into college as the gateway to productive lives and breaking the cycle of poverty. Many of our students attend schools where the guidance counselor is responsible for assisting 400 students in choosing the right college for them. From college fairs to college roundtables to individual assistance in navigating the admissions process and financial aid, these students need an adult presence who can demystify the process and help them succeed.
--Come see our kids. It will change your life and your perspective on what debate can accomplish in marginal educational settings. The most visible events that our debate partners hold are often competitive tournaments. Many leagues rely on volunteers to manage those events. Tournaments require judges, staff for registration, assistance with meals, transportation, ballot running, tabulation and awards setup. Coupled with preparation of media advisories, coordination of volunteers, handling visits from school officials, press and funders, another set of adult hands can make an enormous difference.
GROUP OPTIONS
--ALOUD would like to engage business schools, advertising agencies, and marketing firms in a national effort to develop the capacity of our partners. Most of our partners do not have written business plans, 5-year strategic plans, communication plans, crisis management plans or marketing plans. The lack of effective planning decreases their ability to attract capital to support the children who are at the center of this work. ALOUD is seeking case studies, executive loan programs and business school interns as partners in upgrading the strategic underpinnings of the agencies involved in this work.
2-Adopt-A Tournament--Great for fraternities, sororities, clubs or corporations, ALOUD's Adopt-A-Tournament program connects local chapters with local programs. ALOUD outlines the available roles, creates timelines and matches the volunteers with a program that can maximize their expertise.
